Happy New Year everyone. The year 2024 has finally ended and we're going to take this moment to take a look back on some of Unraid's milestones, updates and accomplishments throughout the year. But first I wanted to start off by announcing that Unraid 7 Stable is officially released. So if you've been dying to wait for it to come out of beta and the release candidates, now is your time to go ahead and install it and start using some of those newest features we've talked about all year.
Speaker 0:There were several updates this year, with Unraid 6 starting at 6.12.8 all the way through 6.12.14. On February 15, 6.12.8 dropped and addressed critical security and data integrity issues. 6.12.9 introduced some bug fixes and performance enhancements. 6.12.10 delivered important bug fixes and security updates and then on July 16, 6.12.11 introduced an OpenSSH security fix alongside other improvements. This was pretty important to the community. If you recall, unraid 6.12.12 backported several Unraid 7 beta working fixes and addressed kernel security vulnerabilities. Unraid 7 beta working fixes and addressed curl security vulnerabilities. 6.12.13 was released August 22nd and corrected some issues impacting hard drives from spinning down. And finally, 6.12.14 was released November 26th and had some bug fixes that were backported from Unraid 7 and other security updates that were included with those backports.
Speaker 0:The big talk of 2024 was obviously Unraid 7, where we had four beta releases and two release candidates as well. Obviously, unraid 7 is a big deal because that brings us ZFS support, tailscale integration, web UI enhancements, we get improvements to VM management, we also get snapshots and cloning and so so much more. One of the major announcements from 2024 was on March 1st, when Unraid announced that it would be changing its pricing model so that it could better finance its employees as well as bring new employees on board and also bring us some of the features that we've been asking for, such as ZFS and the ability to run Unraid without an array With those funds. Unraid hired Nick as a technical program manager. Two full stack developers were hired Pajit and Mike and an e-commerce developer was also hired, but we don't know who that is at this time. The update tool with inside of the operating system has been updated, so now you can change versions of your operating system more easily, whether that be moved to a beta or even roll back to a previous version. The USB curated tool finally got revamped so you can now download and install Unraid much faster onto your USB thumb drives, which is a welcome change. There was two partnerships made one with Tailscale, of course, as we've mentioned many times before, and one with Link Plus, so you could buy the Link Station N1 with Unraid pre-installed on it. The support portal was enhanced and streamlined, and there's also a ticketing system now, so now the support team can view history of other tickets and or view documentation, making their jobs much easier. The Unraid ambassador program launched and saw over 500 affiliates sign up. The Unraid team has been attending more events such as the All Things Open and Southeast Linux Fest, which has been great for them to be able to get out and engage with the community and other customers.
Speaker 0:And, as typical fashion, I wanted to mention some of the best videos on the Uncast show from 2024. The first being the Unraid story that aired on February 23rd. This video gives you a behind-the-scenes look at the origin story of Unraid and how it became to be one of the most popular NAS OSs on the market. We have a video with Tom Lawrence where we deep dive into ZFS and gain all of his expert insights with it. We have a video with TechnoTim where we explore the intersection of tech, content creation and self-hosting. There's a video from IAM Systems, who highlighted Unraid's role in a professional smart home integration. And finally, we have a video with Tailscale Magic where we discuss the partnership integration with Tailscale and all things self-hosting with Alex. Those are all the major highlights from 2024, and be sure to like and get subscribed to the Uncashed show for more content like this that I can't wait to bring to you in 2025. Goodbye, content like this that I can't wait to bring to you in 2025. Goodbye.
